HOYO DE MONTERREY
Hoyo de Monterrey traces its origins to the town of San Juan y Martinez, located in the heart of Cuba's renowned Vuelta Abajo region. The plantation, one of the finest Vegas de Primera, is accessed through a gate on the town's main square, bearing the inscription "Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1960."
The name "Hoyo," meaning "hole" in Spanish, refers to the plantation’s low-lying position on the fertile banks of the San Juan y Martinez River. In 1865, Spanish-born José Gener began using the name of his plantation for a new line of Habanos.
Hoyo de Monterrey's blend is favoured by those who prefer a lighter yet aromatic Habano, offering elegance and complexity. The brand is best known for its Double Corona and the prestigious Epicure series, including the No.1, No.2, and the longer Epicure Especial, which was introduced in 2008. The Le Hoyo series, generally stronger and spicier, complements the brand's classic range.
All vitolas are crafted 'tripalarga, totalmente a mano'—long filler and completely hand-rolled, using leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region.
EPICURE NO. 2
The preferred robusto for many cigar connoisseurs! Once sold without bands, it now bears two to make its identity unmistakable.
Tasting Notes:
Though milder than Cohibas, it surpasses Upmann cigars. It starts with gentle flavours, building into a beautifully complex finish. An exceptional smoke!
Rating: 93 / 100
"This cigar has a lovely nut-and-honey sweetness, an even burn, and a slightly firm draw. A touch of ground nutmeg adds a spicy edge, leading into a warm, toasty finish." — Cigar Aficionado
