PARTAGAS
For cigar enthusiasts, few places are more iconic than the old Partagas factory in Havana. Situated at No. 520 Industria Street, just behind the Capitol building, it lies in the heart of the city.
The factory was established in 1845 by Don Jaime Partagas and remained in operation until only a few years ago. Though the factory is now closed and undergoing transformation into a cigar museum, the Partagas shop on the ground floor is still open and well worth a visit.
A Partagas cigar is instantly recognisable by its deep, earthy flavours. This signature taste is derived from a blend of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo region, selected for their rich, robust flavour and aroma.
Partagas offers a wide range of sizes and shapes, including the famous Lusitania and the 8-9-8, named after its unique box arrangement.
However, the most renowned Partagas is undoubtedly the Serie D No.4, a robusto from the legendary Partagas alphabet series, which dates back to the 1930s. In 2005, the Serie P No.2, a pirámide, was introduced to the line and quickly became a favourite for those who enjoy full-flavoured cigars. The alphabet series expanded again in 2011 with the Serie D No.5 and the larger ring gauge Serie E No.2, followed by the smaller D.6 in 2014.
All vitolas are made tripa larga, totalmente a mano—long filler and fully handmade.
SERIE D NO. 4
Considered by many as the ultimate Robusto, the Serie D No.4 delivers a rich and complex flavour with perfect balance. Its distinctive red and gold band is as iconic as the cigar itself—a true Havana classic.
Tasting Notes:
Well-balanced and smooth with the classic Partagas aroma and flawless construction. A king among robustos.
Rating: 92 / 100
"Visually stunning, this robusto boasts a dark wrapper and flat head. Floral notes give way to a leathery, earthy profile, accented by wood, honeyed tea, and roasted nuts. The draw and burn are excellent..." — Cigar Aficionado
